  • Magill

  • Norton Summit Rd (not the old one). After a bumpy start the road smooths out for some nice tight corners and very small straights.

Includes: Good views back over the city due to the road doubling back on top of itself.

Caution: Plenty of cyclists and cars that don't know how to overtake them during good weather on weekends.

  • Adelaide

  • Adelaide Hills

    at 5km
  • Norton Summit

    at 7km
  • Follow the road to Lobethal (big green signs everywhere). The follow stage is full of small chicanes, somewhat challenging at higher speeds.

  • Ashton

    at 10km
  • The next couple Km's are great fun - full of tight little corners, mainly on an upwards gradient.

Includes: Camelot Castle is nestled on the right, a short way into this leg of the trip.

  • Uraidla

    at 11km
  • Basket Range

    at 14km
  • Lenswood

    at 24km
  • Nice stretch, with decent length straights, enough opportunity to open the throttle.

Caution: Due to some drivers being fairly average, there are a few corners on this stretch which ALWAYS have gravel along them.

  • Lobethal

    at 29km
  • Here I usually take the first left (Mill Rd) once at Lobethal and avoid going through the center of the town. However there are a few bakeries and pubs on the main drag if you are after something to eat and a quick break in your ride.

  • Lobethal still

    at 30km
  • From here there are massive sweeping corners going into Lobethal. Great road to practice getting your knee on the ground.

Caution: No 'real' overtaking lanes through this section and cars are renowned for not going very fast, a little ingenuity will generally solve the problem though ;)

  • Large green sign on the left telling you you've reached Gorge Rd, signals the end of that section. Turn left at the T intersection.

  • Cuddle Creek

    at 38km
  • Nice little pub to stop in.

After this - it's Gorge Rd.

  • Middle of Gorge Rd

    at 43km
  • The green bridge marks the start of the fun. From here the corners are relatively open. Heading in to the city you'll be hugging a guard rail on almost every single left, on the way back you'll come close to headbutting the rock face.

  • Paracombe

    at 45km
  • Green Bridge

    at 49km
  • This second green bridge marks the end of that section, from here it is generally flat corners.

Caution: This section also sees a lot of action from trucks, as a result there is generally a bit of gravel lying on the ground. It is also somewhat renowned for rockfalls. I've never come across any yet.

  • Montacute

    at 49km
  • House on South side

    at 49km
  • Sells strawberries and other various fruit, very cheap, nice stuff.

  • Athelstone

    at 55km
  • 60 Km/h zone

    at 55km
  • End of that ride, if you take the first left after the 60 sign you can go up the hill a little and look back down on a very small portion of the road you just rode up. Good place for a breather.
Time to head back out up Gorge Rd and do those moderate sweeping corners again :) I love that section.

  • Cudlee Creek

    at 72km
  • You've returned to Cudlee Creek. This time instead of heading back to Lobethal, continue up Gorge Rd towards Gumeracha. This road is fairly plain, and generally underused by traffic, so there should be little problems with cars.

  • Chain of Ponds

    at 76km
  • Turning left onto the "Adelaide-Mannum Rd" (Chain of Ponds Rd) will put you straight into the thick of tight corners, and one of Adelaide's better known riding roads.

Caution: This road gets a LOT of traffic. Despite the numerous turnoff's provided for slow drivers, it appears that the slower people drive the thicker they are, and will opt to drive past these turn out points without a second thought. A small honk and a friendly (one fingered) wave usually signals your appreciation of their efforts to ruin your day.

  • Houghton

    at 87km
  • Nice Pub here. People living south of the city can opt to turn out down Lwr Nth East Rd. If you stick with North East Rd there is a very nice watering hole on the right, just after you get back to the civilised world of 60km/h roads.

  • Tea Tree Gully

    at 91km
  • This ride is over.

Took me an hour to ride it, and nearly as long to record it here. I'll add stuff if anyone else thinks it is required.
