Glouscester

This is the beginning of a great ride to Walcha up the legendary Thunderbolt's Way. While there has not been many police on the road the numbers are climbing especially on the weekends. Be prepared for cool weather on the higher (1400m) parts of the ride.

Barrington

50km/h streets.

Great sweeping corners

River Crossing

Can be tricky with sharp bends and narrow bridges,

Steep climb begins here

Watch for lose rocks on as you climb over 1000m in a few kms.

A must see lookout

Stop here for a short break, to enjoy a fantastic view and use the facilities. There's also a sign that will give you a history of Thunderbolt's Way.

Nowendoc

If you need fuel or food you can get it here. Nowendoc is tiny and a little off the road.

Long sweepers

By now you have climed onto the New England Plateaux and will be enjoying a fantastic road with safe high speed sweepers.

The highest part of the ride

We've seen it snow here in winter. At 1400m you may need your coat's liner, even in summer.

Walcha

A great place to spend the night before you tackle the other great ride in the region - the Oxley Highway
