Look for thge McDonalds sign and turn left. Groves Road now takes you onto a 70kpm elevated roadway as a bypass into Windsor. Crosses Macquarie and leads onto richmond road ( (40) but is not marked on this map yet. This map shows the traditional route. We take the Groves road turn off.
Follow route 40 signs to head north west
you see Mcdonalds on the left and the Richmond railway station. Turn right onto March Street and follow route 40.
The start of Bells line of road. 60 kpm zone.
Watch out as this a 60 kpm zone and a fixed camera lurks going up the hill to catch drivers in either direction. Pleae keep speed down as you will only get a frontal photos but there is no sense in upsetting the authorities about missing out on revenue.
Along Bellbird hill we will soon come across tutti fruiti and stop for a coffee. Watch out for the Cafe signs and pull in on the left. Much of this is 80 kpm
Start being vigilant as we come to winding deep cuttings and wet roads can cuase cars to slide out in winter. Suggest you be careful. The author experienced a head on collision here a few years ago.
Lots of cars turn into the gardens here. Watch for turning vehicles and vehicle stopping suddenly.
Plenty of tourist traffic turn off here to see the various gardens especially in spring due to autumn colours. Caution needed.
You will have passed the Weigh station with turning traffic and a 60 kpm zone for that reason. At Bell we start to climb down to follow the Lithgow signs.
You may be lucky to see a steam train here on the weekend.
We turn right here and cross the railway line. The showground is immediately after the crossing on the right.
Ironfest is held here 27th April. See www.ironfest.com.au on the web.
