The way points of this motorcycle route:
Welcome to Highway 9, a nice scenic route, not a lot of traffic a popular backroad thru the countryside. Beats the grind of Hwy 5. Good paved road surface (some roadwork in progress summer 09).
The major intesection in the route. A "T" intersection you'll want to watch cross traffic here and a popular site for school car washes.
Sedro Wolley, the gateway to the Cascades. Nice little town, check out the Hometown Cafe for a bite to eat. Gas up and get ready for the mountains.
Check out the local store (you blink you'll miss it). From here on up the road gets more interesting. Great scenic route along the river's edge. Keep your eyes open for the Park gates and info center, it's worth stopping along the way to enjoy the parks and scenery.
Winthrop, a great little town with an old west taste. If you want to stop over for camping, check out Perrygin Lake.
Two campsites, open grass with some surrounding trees (not a lot of cover). Right on the lakeside, nice facilities, flush toilets. When it's hot you can find some shade or spend an afternoon exploring Winthrop or rent a canoe and paddle the lake. Quite a number of riders, so keep your head up and enjoy the company.
Enjoy the Methow Valley, nice roads, easy riding, nice scenic route through the Washington fruit belt.
Nice stop, check out the lakeshore. Quiet little town with restaurants, gas, all the amenities.
Another quiet town, most major amenities, beautiful scenery.
The cutoff back to the coast side.
Here you can make any of a number of choices to get back north: #5 is the straitght shot, #9 is a good riding alternative or spend your time and motor up the back roads
Take the coast road by way of Chuckanut Drive. Easy road, well paved, great scenery. **A favorite of the local police so slow down and enjoy the view **
Check out Scooters' and do some shopping. :-)
Check out the wait times, and choose a crossing that suits your timing. Three to choose from, Aldergrove, Sumas (if you're heading east along the Fraser Valley or west to Blaine and the Pacific Boarder crossing.
