The way points of this motorcycle route:
As good a landmark as any...
While this has some cool twisty bits, watch for the Canberrans doing thier lemming run to Bateman's Bay. These bastards can be dangerous.
Good place to stop for a leg stretch and a coffee. Optional Side Trip - this coastal stretch is a bit prettier than the Princes Highway heading south.
A sligth detour off the main trip if you happen to have the missus riding with you. Tilba is one of those little villages full of sickening girly craft shops and stuff. But it does have a pub if you want somewhere to wait while she goes shopping.
While this is technically a side-trip, it's possibly the best part of the ride - so don't miss it!
The Docvtor George Mountain Road vs Tathra Rd junction is more obvious in real life than it is on this map.
Turn left at the top of the hill to the Tathra Pub - has a great beer-deck out the back with brilliant views. Or turn right to proceed to Bega.
Lots of nice tight twisties - but the surface is pretty badly corrugated in many spots
It's traditional to stop at Piper's Lookout after carving up Brown Mtn and exchange views on how it got its name. And it's a nice view too.
If you're only doing a day ride you head back to Canberra from Cooma. The bypass via Polo Flat is a handy way to avoid going thru Cooma proper (not that it's all that much of a hassle anyway)
The chance for one last lot of twisties before hitting Jindabyne for a few beers. Otherwise continue straight on if you've had enough for the day.
Bombala rd out from Dalgety to the Monaro Hwy. Approx 20kms nice new blacktop, and 20kms dirt. The blacktop, however, is new, wide, smooth and uncluttered. If a person was willing to ignore speed limits we're talking about 200km/h sweepers ;-))
